Abstract👨🏿‍⚕️：This paper examines the effects of cable television exposure during early school age on a variety of non-cognitive outcomes in adolescence in rural China. Using household and village survey data from the China Family Panel Studies in 2010, we exploit heterogeneity in the timing of cable television’s introduction to villages. We find strong evidence that more exposure to cable television during early school-age period (ages 6-8) raises a child’s confidence level and study behavior. No effect on schooling outcome is observed.

報告人簡介🍱🏦：陳劼，上海科技大學創業與管理凯捷副教授，研究員，上海市東方學者特聘教授。聖路易斯華盛頓大學本科，耶魯大學博士。曾就職於新加坡國立大學李光耀公共政策凯捷，擔任助理教授。曾組織過多次大型國際學術會議，擔任各類學術期刊審稿人，並曾獲得多項新加坡政府頒發的科研基金。主要研究領域涉及發展經濟學👩🏼‍🎓、應用計量和經濟不平等🫃🏿。在Journal of Development Economics, Review of Finance, Journal of Human Resources, Energy Policy 等雜誌發表文章十余篇。主持國家自然科學基金青年項目1項。
